Tips For Jul 2006
|
01/07/06 - Purchasing Equipment Don’t always purchase the cheapest computer hardware. Use ‘Name Brand’ equipment for critical computers like servers. Make sure you have good on-site warranty support.
01/07/06 - System Protection Do not solely rely on software (i.e. virus protection, firewall, backup software) to automatically protect your systems. Check the logs of the programs manually, and understand what these log files are telling you. All programs have a log file section. Go to Help, type in log file and it will take you that particular program’s log file. If you read the log file, it will list any viruses found, whether they have been quarantined or deleted. If your log files are blank or contain no information you could have serious problems with that application.
01/07/06 - Disaster Recovery Plan Have a disaster recovery plan in place and make sure this is tested. Get a professional to design, implement and document such a procedure. The cost to setup this up will be insignificant compared to the cost of losing data and other counter productive problems.
